A New Month
Jul. 1st, 2009 08:23 amWork
Though it was technically at the end of May, I did become a Microsoft Certified Professional by passing the Windows Server 2003 exam. Considering what else I was doing and preparing for at the time, I am very proud of myself for the achievement. It's a big step forward on my career path.
June has been a steady month in terms of production at work, but most of the past couple of weeks have been spent preparing for the 9-week assignment at Bowdoin College. The job itself will be quite easy once I'm settled in, so I expect a lot more downtime than what I'm experiencing now. I don't mind it, though; it's definitely something different to do.
Running
After the Marathon, my weekly mileage has dropped off somewhat. Most weeks have been between 25-40 miles. My speed has lost its edge but I still have plenty of endurance and can still pull off some good race times. My weight is close to 190 again but I have also had an increase in upper body workouts and have started to see more defined muscle up there. I wonder, however, if 'bulking up' at all will affect the 3:10:00 goal I'm reaching for.
Speaking of that goal, I have started to piece together a plan for running workouts for the remainder of the summer as I set a goal for a mid-September Marathon. I should have more on that soon.
SCA
Now I've taken an interest in heavy armor fighting and have throw myself in with that lot (the fencers are giving me the evil eye, though ;) ). I really do enjoy going to the practices and having the social dinner afterward. I probably won't be ready for anything by the GNE but my goal is to just take it all in slowly. I've got plenty of time to get better.
Dancing
After the awesomeness that is the King Arthur show, things have really gotten quiet on this front. It's amazing how much of my free time it had taken up and for a short while I wasn't sure what I was going to do with myself after it was all over. For now, I'm still dancing (or attempting ot) at company class on Wednesday nights. Though I technically haven't made a decision as to whether I'm be in the December show or not, I'll most likely go for it. I have a feeling that this particular show will be a real test of my self-consciousness.
Gaming
L5R, Shadowfist, Chthulu, even a Buffy session. I am definitely back in the pen-and-paper scene after being out of the mix for a long time. It's a lot of fun and it definitely helps to bookend a weekend. I'm also trying to slap together a single session based on my Luminaire Legion world for folks to play before a couple of them leave for Washington. Time is running out; I must hurry!
4th of July
The weekend will be of typical length - nothing extended. I am going to a barbecue in Portland on Saturday then driving down to a beach house that my mom got for the family on Hampton/Salisbury Beach. I'm hoping the weather holds out.
Other July Plans
GNE is the next big event for me. I've got the camping stuff all ready for the whole weekend. This will be my first SCA event for more than a day, so I am a bit excited. Maybe by then we'll have good weather!
The week after will be spent between the Celtic Celebration in Belfast on Saturday morning and the OMGWTFBBQ at my friend's camp in Stetson. It will be a lot of fun spending the weekend with old friends and just being general goofs. :)
After that, the rest of the month will be quiet and plan-free. Maybe except for a few possible Rock Band and gaming invites? ;)
Weather and Mood
I'll just be brief on this. June was dreary and has really played a factor in my mood as of late. Fortunately it looks like the weather will turn around next week, which should help matters. Otherwise, I'll just continue to face forward every day and keep working through the heavier feelings.
